On YouTube Music Key

Google works on <a href="http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/08/18/exclusive-this-is-youtube-music-key-googles-upcoming-subscription-service-with-offline-support-background-audio-no-ads-free-play-music-key/">a subscription service for YouTube</a> that will allow users to watch music videos without ads, play music videos in the background when using mobile devices and temporarily download music videos. YouTube Music Key will cost $9.99 a month and it will include Google Play Music All Access, which will be renamed Google Play Music Key.<br /><br />While this is a great deal for Play Music subscribers, I'm not sure if YouTube Music Key's offering is strong enough on its own. There are many free apps for Android and iOS that let you play almost any YouTube video in the background, not just music videos. They also let you download almost any video and don't show YouTube ads. There are various ways to block YouTube ads and download YouTube videos.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXdDO4QBLO4_n8xCEAZ7f3O1IjmV_Dskw_ADtzkBO1W3ChXYX7DejaD_ZKCKrnzyeCXLB2B4jPgBs1WTSPB1-x29Fv55HSlPTocQ2TDjvwmTzKrNkQcOi77IaE0jVfzDcmfA1Io-mKXqqw/s1600/youtube-music-key.png" /></div><br />I think that YouTube Music Key is a way to improve Google Play Music Key and supplement it with YouTube's music videos. It's also a way to promote Google Play Music's subscription service using YouTube.<br /><br />Features like playing videos in the background or offline playback should be available for free for any video. Limiting them to music videos and requiring a monthly fee seems shortsighted, considering that there are free apps that offer these features.

To celebrate Chromecast's first birthday, Google extended the Play Music All Access free trial from 30 days to 90 days, but only in the US. Google Play Music Integrates With Sonos

A few months ago, I was about to buy 2 Sonos wireless speakers, but I realized that Sonos doesn't support Google Play Music. That was unfortunate, especially considering that Play Music doesn't even have a public API. How to tell if a song from Google Play Music was uploaded from your computer or it was simply matched with a copy from Google's servers? Click the 3-dot icon next to the song's name in the desktop interface and see if you can find a menu item called "fix incorrect match". Google found a great way to use the data from the people who uploaded songs to Google Play Music. <a href="http://research.google.com/bigpicture/music/">Google Music Timeline</a> "shows genres of music waxing and waning, based on how many Google Play Music users have an artist or album in their music library, and other data (such as album release dates). Google Music to Add Upload Feature

To upload audio files to Google Play Music, you need to use <a href="https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1229970">Music Manager</a>. It's only available as a native app for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, so you can't use it if you have a Chromebook or a mobile device.<br /><br />What if you need to upload a few songs and you don't want to wait until Music Manager syncs your files? What if you're using someone else's computer and you can't install Music Manager?<br /><br />Google Play Music's source code includes a message which suggests that you'll be able to upload songs from your browser: "<i>Drag songs or folders here to add music to your library. <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.ears">Google's Sound Search widget for Android</a> has a history page which shows all the songs that have been recognized by the application. You can also find this list inside Google Play Music if you go to <a href="https://play.google.com/music/listen#/ap/sound-search">this playlist</a>. Google Play Music Offers Tag Suggestions

<a href="https://play.google.com/music/">Google's online music service</a> started to suggest better tag values for the songs you've uploaded. If you right-click a song or an album and select "edit info", you might see some suggested values for the album's name, the track number, genre or even the artwork. Click the suggested value to use it or click "use suggestions" to add all the suggested values, then click "save".<br /><br />There's no magic "fix all my tags" button, so you need to manually fix the tags for each song or album.
